Peninsula Shade Sails
Quality weather protection by design & dedication to detail
About Peninsula Shade Sails – Quality Shade Sails to Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula
Since the establishment of Peninsula Shade Sails in 1995, our central aim has been to provide the highest quality shade products available. We believe this can only be achieved when the whole job is completed in-house. This means our own staff design and install posts/fittings, manufacture the sails, then hang the sails.
Design – We will first come to site discuss the requirements of your project, and will then complete a full measure. From this, we will be able to provide both a 2D layout and a 3D shade diagram for your reference.
Installation – By using only our own staff, we ensure that the quality of our posts, fitting, shade sails and all measurements are maintained for every job. Our install team is fully set up with all the required tools to ensure a smooth and tidy install.
Manufacturing process – Developed from traditional yacht sail-making techniques, our dedication to quality sail making is unsurpassed in the industry. All our sails are manufactured in our own loft (3 Barrett Ln, Mornington). This ensures we can use the highest quality materials including PTFE threads, pre-stented shade cloth and high grade stainless steel fittings.
Meet Our Team
Tim Whalley is the Director of Peninsula Shade Sails. Tim moved into the business in April of 2012, having spent many years as a resident of the Mornington Peninsula. Prior to Peninsula Shade Sails, Tim established a shade sails maintenance business, and also worked for John Holland in stakeholder relations in the initial stages of the Regional Rail Link project in Melbourne’s west. Tim holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Management from Monash University. Tim is involved in every aspect of the business from the ground up, from the manufacturing of the shade sails through to the installation, and now heads up Client Management.
Matt is Head of Fabrication. He manages the crafting of the shade sails, from ordering fabric and threads through to the plotting and cutting of sails, into final fabrication. Most of this work is undertaken in the Peninsula Shade Sails workshop in the heart of Mornington. Matt is a qualified marine upholsterer, who after working for many years in Queensland’s boating industry moved into the shade sail industry. He moved to Victoria to be closer to family, and joined the Peninsula Shade Sails team in late 2014.
Sam is our Head of Installations & On-Site Management. He joined Peninsula Shade Sails in 2012. Sam manages the installation team, who set up all posts and fittings for our clients, and fit all shade sails at the end of the project. As part of his role, he is responsible for managing site safety, and also our Steel Shop. Originally from Lockington in country Victoria, Sam holds a Certificate IV in Building Design and Drafting, plus a Certificate IV in Project Management, which make him well equipped for his role at Peninsula Shade Sails.
Shade Sail Loft Tour
Our showroom is conveniently located at 3A Barrett Lane, Mornington which is just behind the Main Street. The shop still functions as a working sail loft for our domestic shade sail fabrication. We strongly believe in having a very visible presence and encourage all of our customers to come in view our displays to gain confidence in the quality of our workmanship. All of the Polyfab shade cloth colours are visible in a display along the factory wall which helps enormously in making a choice on the colour of your shade sail.
